Blue Currents has launched a design competition with the University of Miami College of Engineering, challenging mechanical engineering students to develop an improved design for Trident Flex, the mobile solar pod that rolls out of a Trident 1 container.
Teams of four to five students are working on three focus areas: deployment and ease of use, cost reduction and manufacturability, and durability and terrain performance. Each team delivers a CAD model, a technical report and a final presentation to a judging panel.
The kickoff on September 15 drew a strong turnout. The winning team shares a cash prize and earns internship placements, field deployment experience and direct mentorship from founder Derek Duzoglou.
