Blue Currents has designed and manufactured an off-grid power system for Coconut Club in the Exumas, Bahamas, and it is now awaiting installation. The system adds 36.3 kW of solar generation and 30 kWh of battery storage, tied into the property’s generator so power can stay on day and night without the grid.
Once installed, the on-site renewable energy won’t just power the property. It will also run Coconut Club’s micro-scale desalination plant, so the resort can produce its own drinking water from seawater with sunlight instead of trucked-in water or diesel.
At typical Exumas sun levels, the new array is projected to generate about 58,000 kWh a year. That avoids an estimated 4,400 gallons of diesel and about 44 tonnes of CO₂ each year, figures we’ll confirm with monitoring once the system is installed and running.
The project covers engineering for the solar foundation pads, fabrication of containerized equipment enclosures, and integration of the new array and storage with the existing site systems.
For island properties, every kilowatt-hour made on site is one less shipped in as diesel. Projects like Coconut Club show how Blue Currents puts its water and power platform to work at the point of need.
